When I got started in MLM, my sponsor told me that I needed to go to every opportunity meeting. “Events drive success,” and my success relied on my ability to drag friends and family to these events. However, I quickly learned that this was an obsolete business building practice that produced few results, and it was difficult at best. Worst of all, I off scared many of my friends and family in the process.

Once or twice a week, I take my laptop to the local coffee shop for the afternoon. This gives me a nice change of pace, and I have a nice latte while I work. Today, is one of those days, I have spent the past few hours responding to emails, making calls, and planning some team trainings and webinars. As I worked, I noticed another network marketer walk past me with a several crates, boxes, and samples toward the back meeting room. Tables and chairs were moved, product was displayed, and a couple of teammates joined her to set up the room for a company opportunity meeting. I could not help but note that it took about an hour to set up the room, 45-minutes or so to do a business overview, then another hour to answer questions, pack up the samples, and carry all of the materials back to the car. It looked like there were about four distributors, and about six guests. At least two of the guests sat with crossed arms, as if they were not expecting to be presented with a “business opportunity.”

Not long ago, I was doing the same thing. Two nights a week, I would attend and often facilitate these opportunity meetings. I spent every week calling, convincing, and sometimes dragging friends, family, and people, I met to these events. I picked people up, offered to buy them lunch or dinner, and drove them home just to get people to attend the opportunity meeting. While these meetings did provide some results, more often than not people had little interest in intending. Most of the time they went just to get me to stop bugging them about my business opportunity and if they did join my business, they never duplicated.

There is a better way to build a business!

Online marketing allows me to directly market to individuals who are seeking a home based business opportunity. These are opportunity buyers, and many already have some experience with MLM businesses. Instead of chasing down and forcing people to look at my business, prospects call me to get started; sometimes they just join on their own without any help from me. Instead of chasing a few leads a week, I have hundreds that seek me out, return my calls and emails, and are excited to join my team. My income has doubled, I now have team members in other states and countries, and best of all the people who join my organization are serious about building a home-based business.

While local opportunity events may produce some results, it is very time consuming and there is a much more effect way to build a business. Another personal observation—the first opportunity meeting is over, and a distributor from another company is starting to carry in her materials into the same room to facilitate another event. With no surprise, this second company is a competitor of the first company. I suspect this meeting too will have just a few guests, and produce very few results.

Instead of attending meetings, chasing prospects, and inviting everyone you know to a business opportunity, learn the secrets of attraction marketing to create an endless supply of new prospects who are eager to get involved with your company. Attraction marketing is very successful and although the tools take some time to master, your business will explode and you will never have to bug your friends and family again. Because of attraction marketing, I am an executive and of the top 100 money earners in my primary business, and I only attend local events when I choose to and when I have local prospects that want to learn more. I never have to drag anyone to these events again, and my friends and family are starting to talk to me again and I only show them my opportunity when they ask…. I wish I had started this way!
